Changed circumstances

The next two weeks will be have interesting challenge. As of yesterday (or tomorrow depending on whether or not you want to count the weekend), I'm on vacation.
I'm using it to visit relatives. And while visiting relatives, it's easy to fall back into old habits. I'm embracing this to try an experiment.

One important aspects in sticking to habits is to make failure costly. The two habits I want to retain are daily writing and working out. For my writing, I'm using an automated setup that charges me a certain amount of money for each day I don't publish a post. To keep working out, I agreed to pay my dad 300€ for every workout I am missing. These kind of challenges feel weird when you first start doing them. But they are really useful and will soon be second nature. The question I will try to answer with my experiment is whether maintaining these two habits gives enough momentum to stick to other habits without measuring them.

As part of a gamification to loose weight, I've been weighing myself each day since January. During this, I changed some essential dietary habits. From previous visits I know that after a while of not cooking myself a resignation takes hold of me, where I'll abandon these habits. It never felt good, but always somewhat unavoidable. I'm interested to see how much of the resignation will appear when I'm forcing myself to keep other habits.

I'll probably report back on that in a future post.
