What am I proud to share?

Published on Monday, 16. August 2021

I started blogging in April 2020. I almost never found this worth sharing, wasn't proud about what I was writing. But being proud isn't a great marker to decide what to share.

The posts I'm most proud of are my two attempts of writing a short story (one and two). I just reread them, and still like them. In fact, I think they are better than I remembered. Still, it's obvious that they are first experiments. I noticed many things I want to change about them. For one, they are more tell than show. And based on the number of typos it's obvious that I didn't run a spellcheck or read them aloud before publishing them.

But I'm not proud of them because I think they are great. I'm proud of them because they are an experiment I'm really glad I did. I'm proud of them for the way this experiment changed my identity. This doesn't improve their quality. They are probably not the best thing I have written since I started this blog. Therefore, to write something that's valuable to others it doesn't matter how I feel about it.

For many great songs the artist just tried an idea, they thought of as being stupid or not even worth recording. I'm not a great artist (yet). But I know that I'm already equally bad at estimating the quality of my writing.
