My interview with a Farseer

Published on Tuesday, 28. September 2021

A few weeks ago, I was thrown into an anonymous interview. My boss didn't tell me whom I would speak to, just gave me an address and a time where I would meet him. And so I did. This, then, is the interview that followed.

Could you introduce yourself and what you do in a few sentences?
Yeah, sure. My name is FitzChivalry. No, sorry, it's not. He just read to much of the Farseer trilogy. Let it get it out of his mind, speaking through my mouth if need be. Anything to get this stupid interview started.

What do you mean by that? Who are you talking about?
In layman's terms, I'm a medium. And I'm talking to our author (how does he even dare to call himself that). Before he started writing this, he procrastinated by reading Royal Assassin, which captured his imagination. Or killed it. See what I did there? And yes, we're living in a fiction. You are but a lie.

I was promised an interesting interview. This certainly seems like a good start
An interesting interview? Are you listening to yourself? But sure, think myself mad, if it helps you. Everyone who knows something deeply disturbing about the world will be ignored, nodded away with a friendly smile. But I don't mind. Do what you want. I hope this interview will a success for you, so you can prove yourself worthy of whatever you by doing this interview. What's that? You're only wishing to be paid for your freelance position? You've been interviewing fuckheads like me without getting paid for it? Wow, you must really love your job.

You're saying you are a medium. How does that look like?
Well, it's not like this requires some special abilities. All you need to have is a slightly stronger grip on reality and be a bit more attentive. Then you'd notice that sometimes you're thinking thoughts that aren't your own. This is something that happens to everybody.

That sounds a bit farfetched. But really, I don't want to write right now, and just continue to read the Farseer trilogy
See, it just happened to you. Now you have do keep track of the thought. Make sure to remember that the Farseer trilogy doesn't exist in our universe. Unfortunately, most people ignore these moments, subconsciously integrating these thoughts into their identity. Then, they make up a story, to shape their perception of reality to explain what they just thought about.

So, you prefer the term Farseer over being called a medium. Why do you think it's the better term?
That's exactly what I mean. You just keep going, making stuff up, to affirm the thoughts you think are your own, and reject the influences of higher worlds. What a shame. I don't think cognitive dissonance even starts to adequately describe this insanity.

This concludes my interview with FitzChivalry...
What, just like that? Also, I'm not called FitzChivalry. Did you listen to anything I said?

... Would you like to add anything?
Well, one thing maybe. Why do you have the audacity to write your silly questions in bold? You didn't make an ounce of sense today. Do you think you're that important? Who do you think you are?

Thank you for your time, Fitz
